Sync Shopify Google Sheets: Bulk Edit Products, Prices and Inventory

Sync Shopify Google Sheets: Bulk Edit Products, Prices and Inventory
Sync Shopify Google Sheets to review and update supported product data without opening every Shopify product separately.
With the Shopify Google Sheets integration, you can bulk edit Shopify products, prepare price changes, review inventory by location, and update supported SEO fields in one spreadsheet. Merchants can sync Shopify Google Sheets when product-by-product editing becomes too slow. Use formulas and filters, review the results, and then send approved changes back to Shopify.

When to Sync Shopify Google Sheets for Catalog Updates
Shopify has its own bulk editor. You can select several products or variants, choose the fields you want to display and make changes inside Shopify. The option to sync Shopify Google Sheets is useful when the same update affects hundreds of products or variants.
Use the Shopify Google Sheets integration when you need a shared workspace for calculations, checks, and approval before updating the store.
That works well for a small, focused update.
Google Sheets becomes useful when you need more room to calculate, compare or review changes. For example, changing three product prices may be faster in Shopify. Preparing a supplier price increase for 1,000 product variants is easier to control in a spreadsheet. You can sync Shopify Google Sheets data when formulas, filters and team review are needed before an update.
You may need to:
- Apply one formula to hundreds of prices
- Compare current and proposed values
- Filter products by seller, product type, tag or SKU
- Review stock for several Shopify locations
- Find missing or inconsistent product information
- Ask another team member to check the changes
- Keep calculations separate from approved values
Shopify Admin, CSV or Google Sheets?
| Method | Best used for | Main consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Individual product page | One or two detailed corrections | Slow when the same change affects many products |
| Shopify bulk editor | Direct changes to selected Shopify fields | Less flexible for calculations and team approval |
| Shopify CSV | Large structured imports and exports | Product and variant relationships must remain correct |
| Shopify Google Sheets integration | Repeated updates, formulas, filters and collaboration | Only supported editable fields can be returned to Shopify |
Practical rule: Use Shopify for small corrections. Use Google Sheets when you need to calculate, compare, filter or approve changes across a larger catalog.

What the Shopify Google Sheets Integration Does
When you sync Shopify Google Sheets, the app creates and manages a spreadsheet connected to your Shopify store.
The app documentation divides the workbook into three main sections:
- Products
- Variants
- SEO
The documented editable product fields include:
- Title
- Description
- Seller
- Product type
- Tags
- Handle
Editable cells are displayed in green. Red sections are not editable. The variant section also allows supported green fields to be changed in bulk.
The current Shopify App Store listing describes bulk access to products and variants. Its paid feature list includes editing products, variants, stock and prices, together with access to order and customer information. The listing also identifies bulk editing for meta titles and descriptions. Check the live listing before publication because plans and allowances can change.
What the App Does Not Do
The sync Shopify Google Sheets workflow creates a managed spreadsheet containing supported store data. The app does not make every Shopify field editable.
It also does not:
- Decide whether a price protects your margin
- Verify that a warehouse count is correct
- Approve your changes
- Fix an incorrect spreadsheet formula
- Write product or SEO copy for you
- Replace an Amazon marketplace integration
- Confirm that every value in the sheet should be published
Product image alt text is not listed as a supported editable field in the current public documentation. Check the current app interface before including it in your workflow. When no supported field is available, update the alt text directly in Shopify.
What the App Requires
Before you sync Shopify Google Sheets, assign one person to review and approve the final update.
- An active Shopify store
- The app installed on the correct store
- A Google account
- The required Shopify permissions
- A plan that supports the fields and sync allowance you need
- A small product group for testing
- A person responsible for final approval
The app uses a restricted Google Drive permission scope. According to its documentation, it can create, edit and delete only the spreadsheets it manages. It cannot access unrelated documents in the connected Google Drive account.

How to Sync Shopify Google Sheets for Bulk Product Updates
To sync Shopify Google Sheets safely, keep the Shopify-to-Sheets refresh and the Sheets-to-Shopify update as two separate steps. The workflow has two separate directions.
Shopify to Google Sheets
The public documentation describes an automatic one-way sync from the store to Google Sheets every 30 minutes. This sends supported Shopify data to the managed sheet.
It does not mean every spreadsheet edit is automatically returned to Shopify.
Check the app plan and current settings before building an urgent process around the documented timing.
Google Sheets to Shopify
You edit supported green fields in the spreadsheet.
When the data has been checked, click Update to send the edited supported values back to Shopify.
The basic workflow is:
- Import the current Shopify data.
- Filter the products included in the task.
- Prepare the proposed values.
- Review the calculations.
- Place approved values in editable cells.
- Select Update.
- Check the affected products in Shopify.
Important: A formula result is a proposed value until someone reviews and approves it.
How to Set Up the Shopify and Google Sheets Connection
Before you sync Shopify Google Sheets, confirm that you connected the correct store and company Google account.
Step 1: Install the App
Open the Sync with Google Sheets app page and continue to the Shopify App Store.
Check the current:
- Plan features
- Editable fields
- Sync allowance
- Automatic sync options
- Trial availability
- Shopify permissions
- Google permissions
Do not copy plan prices or limits from an old screenshot.
Step 2: Connect a Google Account
Open the app inside Shopify and select Connect.
You will be redirected to Google’s authentication screen. Sign in with the Google account that should own or manage the spreadsheet.
Use a company-controlled account where possible. This makes access easier to manage when team responsibilities change.
Step 3: Create the Spreadsheet
Select Create in the app.
The app creates the worksheets and opens the generated file in Google Sheets. The documentation notes that processing can take longer when the store has more products and variants.
Step 4: Check the Editable Fields
Review the spreadsheet before pasting or sorting data.
Green cells can be edited. Red cells are provided for reference and should not be changed.
To work with existing supported SEO information, enable the relevant meta-field import setting in the app. The documentation states that the SEO area can show and update supported SEO titles and descriptions.
How to Update Prices for 1,000 Products
The spreadsheet can help you prepare a large price update. The number of rows you can process depends on the app plan, catalog structure and spreadsheet performance. You can sync Shopify Google Sheets data after the proposed prices have been calculated and approved.
Do not start by overwriting the editable price column.
Step 1: Filter the Products
Use a reliable field such as:
- Seller
- Product type
- Tag
- SKU
- Current price
For example, filter the variants affected by one supplier’s 10% price increase.
A SKU is the reference used to identify an item. A variant is one version of a product, such as a specific size or color.
Step 2: Add a Proposed Price Column
Keep the current and proposed prices side by side.
| SKU | Current price | Proposed price | Difference | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SHIRT-001-S | $25.00 | $27.50 | $2.50 | Approved |
| SHIRT-001-M | $25.00 | $27.50 | $2.50 | Approved |
| SHIRT-002-S | $40.00 | $44.00 | $4.00 | Review |
Step 3: Apply the Formula
If the current price is in cell C2, use:
=ROUND(C2*1.10,2)
A price of $25.00 becomes $27.50.
For easier control, enter 10% in cell H1, then use:
=ROUND(C2*(1+$H$1),2)
You can now change the percentage in one place.
Step 4: Review the Results
Check:
- The lowest proposed price
- The highest proposed price
- Blank or zero prices
- Changes above your normal range
- Decimal formatting
- Compare-at prices
- Minimum margin requirements
A 10% markup is not the same as a 10% profit margin. Product costs, discounts, taxes, payment fees, shipping and returns can change the actual margin.
Step 5: Approve the Values
Copy only approved results into the app’s editable price cells.
Common Services recommends creating a separate sheet for formulas and analysis. This helps preserve your calculations if the managed sheet is deleted or recreated.

How to Update Inventory Across Locations
The app’s 2025 changelog states that location access was added so it could retrieve inventory from warehouse locations rather than relying only on the main warehouse. Use the sync Shopify Google Sheets workflow to review supported inventory data by location.
The quantity area displays supported inventory information by location. Confirm the current location fields in the app before making a large update.
Step 1: Identify the Correct Location
Check the column heading before entering a quantity.
For example:
- New York Warehouse: 30 units
- California Warehouse: 20 units
Do not enter 50 in both columns. Each location needs its own quantity.
Step 2: Confirm the Quantity Source
Use a verified source such as:
- A physical stock count
- A warehouse management system
- A supplier file
- A fulfilment report
- An internal inventory audit
The app transfers the value you enter. It cannot confirm what is physically on the shelf.
Step 3: Test Five to Ten Products
Start with a small group.
After the update, check:
- Product
- Variant
- SKU
- Shopify location
- Available quantity
Continue only after the test results are correct.

How to Edit Product and SEO Information
The product sheet supports documented fields such as titles, descriptions, seller, product types, tags and handles. When you sync Shopify Google Sheets data, supported SEO titles and descriptions can be reviewed together.
Use filters to find:
- Blank descriptions
- Inconsistent product types
- Duplicate or unnecessary tags
- Old product names
- Inconsistent capitalization
- Handles that need review
Be careful when changing a handle. Shopify uses the product handle in its URL structure, so a change may also require a redirect.
Review SEO Titles and Descriptions
The app documentation and Shopify App Store listing confirm bulk editing for supported SEO titles and SEO descriptions.
Use the SEO section to find:
- Blank SEO titles
- Blank SEO descriptions
- Duplicate wording
- Old product names
- Descriptions that do not explain the product
- Inconsistent brand or category terms
The app provides the editable fields. Your team still needs to write and approve the copy.
For example:
Too broad:
Women’s Shoes
More specific:
Women’s Waterproof Walking Shoes in Black
What About Image Alt Text?
Product image alt text is not listed as a supported editable field in the current public app documentation.
Do not describe it as an app feature unless it appears in the current production interface and has been tested. Otherwise, update image alt text through Shopify.
Shopify also provides a native bulk editor for changing selected products and variants directly in the Shopify admin.

How to Find Catalog Problems
Google Sheets conditional formatting can highlight cells that meet a rule.
Useful rules include:
- Inventory below 5
- Price equal to $0.00
- Blank SEO title
- Blank product description
- Duplicate SKU
- Proposed price increase above 20%
- Missing product type
Conditional formatting shows which rows need attention. It does not correct the data. Google Sheets supports conditional formatting rules that highlight cells based on values or custom conditions.
Avoid adding unnecessary rules to an entire workbook. Google notes that duplicate or overlapping conditional-formatting rules can affect spreadsheet performance.
How to Collaborate with Your Team
Google Sheets supports comments, sharing permissions and protected ranges. These controls can help separate preparation, review and approval work. A shared sync Shopify Google Sheets workflow allows the ecommerce, purchasing and warehouse teams to review the same data.
A simple workflow could look like this:
| Role | Responsibility |
|---|---|
| Purchasing | Provides supplier cost changes |
| Warehouse | Confirms physical stock |
| SEO specialist | Writes titles and descriptions |
| E-commerce manager | Reviews proposed updates |
| Catalog administrator | Sends approved values to Shopify |
Protect sensitive areas such as:
- Price formulas
- Approved prices
- Inventory columns
- SKUs
- Handles
- Internal costs
Use comments when someone needs to ask a question without replacing the current value.
Google Sheets also provides version history, which shows changes made to a file and can help the team review or restore an earlier version.
Create a named version before a large update, such as:
- Before Summer Sale
- Supplier Increase July
- Inventory Count Approved
- SEO Review Complete
Version history helps with spreadsheet recovery. It does not replace checking the final values in Shopify.

Automation Ideas
The app documents a one-way Shopify-to-Sheets refresh every 30 minutes. The sync Shopify Google Sheets connection handles the documented app synchronization, while alerts require separate Google features or scripts.
You can also build separate Google Sheets workflows for tasks such as:
- A daily low-stock report
- A weekly list of blank SEO descriptions
- A monthly supplier price comparison
- An alert when a selected cell changes
- A record of approved updates
Google Sheets supports conditional email notifications when selected cell values change, although feature availability can depend on the Google account.
Google Apps Script can run custom functions after spreadsheet events or on a recurring schedule. Installable triggers require separate setup, permissions, testing and maintenance.
These are Google Workspace or custom automation features. They are not standard Sync with Google Sheets app features.
How to Send Changes Back to Shopify
Before selecting Update, check:
- Only the intended products were changed.
- Formula cells do not contain errors.
- Approved values are in supported editable cells.
- Prices use the correct decimal format.
- Quantities are assigned to the correct location.
- SEO text belongs to the correct product.
- SKUs and handles were not changed accidentally.
- Five to ten test products were reviewed.
Select Update to send the edited supported values back to Shopify.
After the update, check:
- One simple product
- One product with several variants
- One low-priced product
- One high-priced product
- One product from each updated location
- One product with updated SEO information
Do not check only the first row.
Limitations and Best Practices
The sync Shopify Google Sheets workflow does not make every Shopify field editable.
Keep One Source of Truth
Decide which system controls each type of data.
| Data | Suggested source |
|---|---|
| Supplier cost | Supplier file or ERP |
| Published product title | Shopify |
| Physical inventory | Warehouse system |
| Proposed price | Review sheet |
| Approved update | App-managed editable cell |
Without a clear source, an old spreadsheet or supplier file can overwrite a newer value.
Do Not Sort One Column by Itself
Sort the complete table.
Sorting a price column without the matching product identifiers can separate prices from the correct SKUs.
Keep Calculations Separate
Use another sheet for:
- Formulas
- Lookup tables
- Pivot tables
- Approval notes
- Reports
Common Services recommends separating analysis from the app-managed sheet so calculations are easier to preserve.
Check Current Plans and Limits
Plans, prices, sync allowances and supported features can change.
Check the current Common Services page and Shopify App Store listing before building a workflow around a particular allowance.
Keep Amazon Workflows Separate
Sync with Google Sheets is for supported Shopify and spreadsheet workflows. It does not replace an Amazon marketplace integration.
Merchants who also sell on Amazon can use CS Amazon Sync for supported product, inventory, price and order workflows between Shopify and Amazon.
Start with the Shopify Amazon Sync Guide before enabling a larger Amazon workflow.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I bulk edit Shopify products in Google Sheets?
Yes. You can edit supported product, variant, stock, price and SEO information in spreadsheets created by the app. Only supported editable fields can be sent back to Shopify.
Can I update 1,000 Shopify prices at once?
You can prepare and review 1,000 spreadsheet rows, but the practical update size depends on the app plan, catalog structure and spreadsheet performance. Test five to ten products before sending a large update.
Does changing a spreadsheet cell immediately update Shopify?
No. The documented workflow requires you to select Update to send supported edited values back to Shopify.
Can I update stock for several Shopify locations?
The app includes location access and can retrieve inventory from warehouse locations. Confirm the current quantity columns and test a small product group before making a wider inventory update.
Can I update product image alt text with the app?
Image alt text is not listed as a supported editable field in the current public documentation. Check the current app interface or update the field directly through Shopify.
How Do You Sync Shopify Google Sheets Data?
Install the app, connect a Google account and create the managed spreadsheet. Edit supported cells, review the changes and select Update to send approved values back to Shopify.
Manage Supported Shopify Catalog Data from a Spreadsheet
Google Sheets gives you space to calculate prices, compare values, review stock and coordinate changes before they reach your live store. When you sync Shopify Google Sheets data, your team can calculate, filter and review supported changes before updating the live store.
Start with five to ten products. Check the results in Shopify. Then expand the process to the rest of the supported catalog data.
Stop editing products one by one. Install Sync with Google Sheets and manage supported Shopify catalog data from a spreadsheet.
